As part of its ongoing On-Call A/E Services contract with Ivy Tech Community College’s Kokomo Campus, krM Architecture provided feasibility study, design, and construction services for a new 4.0 Robotics Lab, completed in Fall 2023. The project addressed Ivy Tech’s need for a specialized learning environment that could prepare students for the increasingly automated manufacturing industry and help local employers develop a highly skilled workforce.
krM designed the lab around the specialized infrastructure, flexibility, and safety requirements of advanced manufacturing technology. The space accommodates a wide range of equipment—including industrial and autonomous robots, CNC and PLC systems, 3D metal printing, and Amatrol 4.0 training cells—while providing the electrical power and integrated systems necessary to support this evolving technology. The layout allows students to work directly with full-scale industrial equipment, creating a hands-on learning environment that more closely reflects the conditions they will encounter in the workplace.
The result is a flexible, technology-rich facility that bridges the gap between classroom instruction and real-world manufacturing, giving Ivy Tech students practical experience with the robotics, automation, and digital integration skills sought by local industry.
