March 3, 2017, Indianapolis, IN – krM Architecture was honored with two International Interior Design Association Excellence Awards (IIDA IDEA) Indiana for Earlham College May-Crossen Student Commons and Co-Lab for Interior Architecture and the Markle Branch Library, of the Huntington City-Twp Public Library System, for New Construction. A jury of distinguished designers selected both projects for top awards in their respective categories. Projects were evaluated on their design quality, application of industry products, ability of the project team to overcome challenges, and project budget.
A vibrant, transformational design, May-Crossen Student Commons and The Co-Lab provide an environment for student expression, collaboration, respite, and recreation that encourages connections to the heart of campus. An elegant and modern response to Earlham’s existing programs and spaces, the design utilizes a palette of vibrant colors, wood detailing and flexible furniture.
Through the client’s vision and the synergy between the architectural and interior design, the Markle Branch Library project has created a ‘third place’ for the community to learn, meet one another and share a sense of pride. The inclusion of natural light encourages reading and showcases the transparency of the library to the surrounding neighborhood.
