Three aging elementary schools in Anderson, Indiana needed to be replaced by a single facility. But the new structure would have to be much more than a building with plenty of classroom space. It needed to be a destination that inspired and unified its students. And it needed to reflect the high priority the community placed on education.
For the project to be successful, collaboration was essential. We engaged a committee of educators to help us create a vision for the new school. We then studied the building site, researched trends in elementary school design, and sought to find ways architecture could serve students and faculty alike. Today, Eastside Elementary’s award-winning design welcomes and motivates students every day. Its use of geometric patterns, natural design, and innovative spaces make it an outstanding educational environment. The school is a highly visible symbol in the Anderson area. It’s also a message to everyone who sees it: Education matters to us. So does every single child.
