krM Architecture worked with the Greencastle Community School Corporation over a period of five months to provide a facilities assessment of all five academic buildings in their corporation as well as their athletic center (over 500,000 SF in total). This study was undertaken to provide the school corporation with a comprehensive view of their facilities and an organized master plan of improvements that could be implemented over the next 5-10 years based on established priorities.
This study evaluated the solutions to a wide range of goals and challenges that would improve the usability, quality, and image of all of the facilities. The many solutions and upgrades were provided with a cost identified with each.
The prioritizing of the suggested upgrades were organized to best achieve Greencastle School’s goals:
- Improved quality of facilities for the Greencastle School district.
- Improved educational environment in the areas that are lacking.
- Improved overall image of the facilities to make them more attractive for potential families.
- Improved safety of the facilities both in terms of normal use, and also outside threats.
- Improved efficiency of the energy consumption.
The final deliverable of that study helped the school obtain a $32 million dollar bond sale to implement the proposed work. Phase one of the work is currently underway.
