krM Architecture has been working with the Pendleton Community Library since 2005. Most recently, we carried out a study with the library in 2019 that identified eight primary areas of focus: common spaces, staff spaces, children’s, large meeting room, exterior improvements, new study rooms, teen space, and reference area.
The goals were to modernize the facility, maintain the existing warm aesthetics and maximize daylighting throughout the library. In the Children’s Department a new modern sculptural tree was installed in front of a large window as a focal point and integrated with seating and shelving. Teens will be able to use gaming equipment and have access to programs in their own space. With new finishes, casework and furniture, updated technology and access to both private and collaborative study areas, the space is more open and accessible for the patrons.
