The Pulaski County Public Library serves a district of nine townships in Indiana, evolving over time with renovations and additions. Most recently, krM designed an interior renovation of the original Carnegie, reorganizing the core of the building and pulling together multiple different design styles into one harmonious design language that is more respectful to the historic components of the architecture. A particular focus on the original Carnegie, as well as the detailing on the circulation desk, and the finishes throughout the renovation create the transitional design features that lend themselves to both modern and historic spaces.
The renovation also included stairs with a new custom railing leading upstairs from the main entrance, a renovated circulation area, a new teen space, a cafe area, office improvements and a computer/technology lab. New mechanical systems, lighting, signage, and elevator access to the new Carnegie space were added, and an exterior ramp from the rear entrance parking lot with new landscaping provides ADA compliance.
