The library and krM Architecture have been working with a variety of local stakeholders, predominately the Batesville Area Arts Council, to ensure these spaces fill a void in the community to serve these organizations. There will be a large gathering space, programming rooms, makerspace, and a variety of other flexible meeting spaces to support arts and entrepreneurship.
As this building will not house any of the library’s collection, the space will have flexibility to be open after hours to host events with fluidity between the indoor spaces and outdoor plaza. When the library acquired the adjacent properties for this project, the team worked with the electrical company who agreed to bury utility lines, allowing the project to absorb the alleyway between the library and the acquired properties where the new plaza will activate and harmonize the space between the existing library and the new Arts & Innovation Hub.
